design concept

“Haerenga” City Club, located in Auckland, New Zealand, serves as a bridge between traveling business professionals and the cultural heritage of New Zealand. The design was inspired by Maori art and culture, and the space aims to offer travelers shelter and recuperation before, during, and/or after their business endeavors. The design palette draws from the rich, earthy tones of the land and the iridescent hues of paua shells found in the coastal waters. Traditional motifs inspire the design elements throughout the interior in the form of textiles, accessories, and wayfinding elements. This design is a testament to Auckland’s cultural heritage and offers a luxurious haven where global travelers can find both connection and inspiration in the “City of Sails”, an environment that honors the past while embracing the future.

All Access is an Inclusive Living Design Center prototype located in Portland, Oregon. Oregon was selected due to its already-in-place initiative toward inclusive housing and universal design. All Access aims to provide educational resources to the community of residential builders and designers regarding the importance of universal design. The facility opens the door of opportunity for independence to the physically disabled and mobility impaired with showrooms of accessible products and systems. Finally, All Access provides the design services needed for clients to implement accessible and/or universal practices into their own homes from the in-house, full-functioning architecture and design firm. With more people desiring to age in place, universal design standards need to be a conversation from the beginning of a residential project; All Access attempts to be a place that feels like home, and aids clients and designers in implementing simple but important design aspects for their physical needs.
