COMMERCIAL
The following projects were completed during my junior and senior years of college. Typologies explored include Cultural, Hospitality, Retail, Higher Education, and Healthcare.
01
CARROUSEL
CITY CLUB

This project required students to design a luxury city club for high-profile business professionals in a foreign country, renovating one floor of an existing building. The program includes a lobby/reception, bar/lounge, dining rooms, apartments, and suites. The carousel was popularized in Paris, France during the 1920s and is used as the prominent motif in Carrousel City Club, as well as French Art Deco.

PORTLAND MUSEUM OF ART

Students were asked to develop a two-story commercial community building focused on cultural demographics. The Portland Museum of Art houses art galleries, community studios, staff offices, and a coffee shop. The museum features bold designs with classical touches meant to inspire people of all backgrounds. This project embraces combining classic and modern ideas.

SOLACE

The 2023 IDEC Student Design Competition prompted participants to design a mental health respite for students on their college campus. Caroline Goodson, Carly Brannon, and I worked together to configure a space that accounts for the university’s demo-graphics. We established a universal design that reflects the faith-basis of our university and allows students to find different types of solace.

STRESS RELIEVERS AS DESIGN DRIVERS
ART
Engaging in creative activities such as art can help decrease feelings of stress, anxiety, and shame, even in students who don’t consider themselves creative.
MUSIC
Listening to music or playing an instrument can make new neuropathways in the brain, increasing our connectivity.
REST
The resting brain state is what allows us to be the most creative and generate ideas; naps can help promote alertness, mood, creativity, and productivity.

04
THE OLD
FASHIONED

The 2022 IIDA Student Design Competition allowed students to design an assisted living facility, placing emphasis on the need to design for both residents and staff, and actively working towards destigmatizing the AL typology. My design partner Carolina Brannon and I decided to design the facility in hopes of creating a nostalgic experience for the residents that made them feel comfortable and cared for.
